The mayor promised to ‘fundamentally change the nature of policing in San Francisco,’ but this budget proposal is smoke and mirrors. It cuts more from the library this year than the SFPD, doesn’t shrink the size of any of our police forces, and falls way short of the mayor's announced vision to replace police with civilians for non-violent calls for service. We look forward to working with Supervisor Walton and others to fight for what was promised. We won’t be satisfied until we defund, disarm and disband the police and commit to a new model of public safety that doesn't murder Black San Franciscans.
